7 Songs For The Warm Weather

Artist: Lydia
Album: Devil
Song: Back To Bed

"Back To Bed" is springtime music in its purest form, with its light airy acoustic guitars complimented by bouncing piano melodies and vocalist Leighton Antelman's "la da da's." Not to mention that the whistling at the end might as well be the equivalent of birds chirping. The whole song paints a warm spring picture, and wouldn't be out of place playing over a Bambi montage. The opening lyrics even have Antelman singing "She hates winter and apologies" to further drive the springtime feeling home.

Artist: Skizzy Mars
Song: Sideways
Album: Phases

"Sideways" is a fitting soundtrack as a prelude to the events of any summer night. The chorus is invigorating and perfect for a night drive. The beat just excites and galvanizes the brain with images of city lights and living large. Above all else the song just makes you feel good, and the feeling is magnetized by the warm weather.

Artist: The 1975
Song: Chocolate
Album: Music For Cars

The 1975 may have written the catchiest song in the world with "Chocolate." The song rivals "Call Me Maybe" as to which track has the better hook. "Chocolate" is a lot of fun to listen to, and the light melodies and driving bass line that sweep through the track accompany the rising temperature of spring and summer flawlessly.

Artist: The Front Bottoms
Album: Talon Of The Hawk
Song: Twin Sized Mattress

"This is for the lake that me and my friends swim in, naked and dumb on a drunken night," Brian Sella sings on "Twin Sized Mattress," and if these lines don't invoke memories of summertime shenanigans, Sella's voice will. His singing voice is one that wouldn't be out of place while playing an acoustic guitar over a campfire on a hot summer night. "I wanna contribute to the chaos," Sella voices somewhere in the middle of the track and that's what late summer nights with your best friends are about; contributing to the chaos. "Twin Sized Mattress," is sure to be an anthem for your personal contribution to the chaos.

Artist: Allison Weiss
Album: Say What You Mean
Song: How To Be Alone

Allison Weiss uses a banjo, double time drumming, subtle xylophone chimes, and groovy guitar riffs to make "How To Be Alone" a song for a sunny day. This is a track that wouldn't be out of place playing on your car radio as you drive to the beach. For a song with such dark lyricism the music itself couldn't be brighter, but as Weiss said herself, "I prefer to be having a blast, but I'm very emotional, so all of my songs are a mix of the two scenarios.

Artist: Paramore
Album: Paramore
Song: Ain't It Fun

If you see someone walking in front of you, snapping their fingers and rhythmically twitching or dancing uncontrollably, chances are they're listening to Paramore's "Ain't It Fun." The bass line on "Ain't It Fun" is so aggressively groovy, that it just possesses your body. Give in, you can't fight it trust me. It's a great track to turn your dull walk in the sun into a spontaneous and involuntary dance routine that may leave a trail of animals following you Pied Piper style. That's what makes this an excellent song choice for the warm weather.

Artist: Watsky
Album: Cardboard Castles
Song: Strong As An Oak

The beat of "Strong As An Oak" feels like the summer air was bottled up and mixed with the track. The hook "Everything is A-OK because I'm strong as an O-A-K," conjures feelings of relaxation and a reminder that in the "summer time the livings easy," to quote Sublime's "Doin' Time."
